Quantic Dream has agreed to publish Red Thread Games upcoming game, Dustborn. Dustborn is a single-player action-adventure game with narrative woven throughout.
Red Thread Games says it “couldn’t have asked for a better partner” in Quantic Dream because they understand how important story can be for a video game. Quantic Dream is known for having created Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human.
A modern take on the responsibilities of super heroes, Dustborn confronts modern struggles of “disinformation and the power of words” through the eyes of protagonist Pax, “a shrewd ex-convict on the fringes of society with super human powers.” Pax, with her crew of friends, must transport mysterious cargo from Pacifica to the Free Nation of Nova Scotia, through territories dominated by the repressive Authoritarian regime, known as “Justice” all while avoiding the fanatical Puritans, who are chasing Pax.
Using a cell-shaded, comic book art style, the game evokes feelings of rebellion in its punk aesthetic. A self-proclaimed game about “hope, love friendship music, road trips, family, robots, echoes, justice, animals, ghosts, civil war, loneliness, climate change, religion, and the power of words”, Dustborn is right up Quantic Dreams alley of approaching polarizing topics through the medium of video games.
Dialogue will have a large presence in Dustborn, in and outside of combat. Pax has found a way to harness the power of words and manifests them into powers to use against her enemies. Speaking with Pax’s crewmates develops her relationships with them, growing and developing as the story unfolds in this “Neo-Western narrative.”
Dustborn is set to release some time in 2021 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PlayStation 5.
