Starship Troopers – Terran Command Announced, Coming in 2020

Slitherine LTD, the British developer, publisher, and producer of over 200 strategy and war video games for various platforms, announced today that Starship Troopers – Terran Command is scheduled for release sometime in 2020.

Based on TriStar Pictures’ iconic 1997 movie, Starship Troopers – Terran Command is a real-time strategy game, set in the same universe as the film. Players are dropped right into the heart of a human colony overrun by the Arachnids, and they must take the battle into bug territory, leading an army of elite soldiers to defeat the alien menace. Deploying units in strategic locations, gamers will cover vital choke-points, build defensive emplacements, and achieve superior firepower through the tactical use of elevation and terrain.

“If you take one of the most iconic movies from the 90s and shape it into a strategy game of survival, that mixes classic real-time mechanics, tower defense and tactical deployment of units then you have ‘Starship Troopers – Terran Command’ in a nutshell”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Modern strategy games are fast-paced and they successfully blend unit management, survival and captivating storytelling. Nothing is more suited to this type of gameplay than the Starship Troopers universe, where there is a continuous sense of danger and uncertainty”.

“When creating this game,” McNeil continued, “We aimed to capture the essence of the original movie and its universe. This is not only achieved by creating a coherent set of units and scenarios, but also by mimicking the language, visual elements, dialogues and the little details that made the film such an iconic, cult feature.”

Working together with strategy games developer The Artistocrats, Slitherine plans to create a product featuring complex mechanics, deep gameplay systems, and a wide variety of options to players. These features are intended to turn the fast-paced strategy game into a mind-bending experience involving multiple solutions to one basic problem: the need to squash a lot of bugs.
