Resident Evil 3 Remake Confirmed Via Leaked Images

Looks like someone over at Capcom made an oopsie, as images for the anticipated and rumored Resident Evil 3 remake have been discovered by the game data aggregate site, gamestat.

Rumors have been flying in recent weeks regarding the possibility of a Resident Evil 3 remake. On November 22, Gaming Instincts reported on a YouTube leak from user Spawn Wave Media in which he speculated that Capcom would, indeed, pursue a Resident Evil 3 remake, and that he believed the game would see release sometime in 2020, perhaps to coincide with Halloween. Spawn Wave is known for his history of accurate predictions and speculation, including the release of Dark Souls 3 screenshots prior to its announcement in 2015, as well as predicting a collaboration between FromSoftware and the legendary author of the epic A Song of Ice and Fire series, George R. R. Martin—which was confirmed with the announcement of Elden Ring at this year’s E3 conference. On top of this, Capcom itself has hinted that they would be interested in creating a Resident Evil 3 remake if this year’s Resident Evil 2 did well—and since RE2 took home Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joysticks and is anticipated to snatch that distinction again at this year’s VGA’s, all of these factors added together to lend the idea of an RE3 remake both credence and substance.

The newly-discovered images come from game data aggregate site gamestat, which pulls all of its game tracking data directly from PSN’s API. What this means is that these images are hosted on the PlayStation Network itself, and are the first verifiable confirmation of a Resident Evil 3 remake.

With these images confirming that Resident Evil 3 is, indeed, in production, the looming question that remains is: when will the game be announced? As reported earlier this week, a well-known Japanese leaker stated Capcom may be announcing two new titles at Jump Festa, which takes place December 21-22. However, the Game Awards air on December 12, and with Resident Evil 2 nominated and the likely winner of Game of the Year, it would make perfect sense for RE3 to see reveal that night.
