YouTuber and gaming influencer Spawn Wave Media has released a video which purportedly leaks the development of a Resident Evil 3 remake.
In the realm of gaming rumors and leaks, this bit of an information tease seems more plausible than most, as Spawn Wave has a history of accurate predictions and speculation. These include releasing screenshots of Dark Souls 3 prior to its announcement in 2015, as well as predicting a collaboration between FromSoftware and the legendary author of the epic A Song of Ice and Fire series, George R. R. Martin—which was confirmed with the announcement of Elden Ring at this year’s E3 conference.
Spawn Wave speculates that Capcom will, indeed, go forward with a Resident Evil 3 remake, stating that he believes it will see release sometime in 2020, perhaps later on in the year to coincide with Halloween. Capcom itself has hinted that they would pursue such a project if this year’s remake of Resident Evil 2 sold well, and if one considers that the RE2 remake just took home the Golden Joystick Ultimate Game of the Year Award, it adds a bit more credence to this whole idea.
Fans of the Resident Evil franchise were more than happy with the remake of RE2, praising its graphical appearance, atmosphere, and loyalty to the original game. It stands to reason that if Capcom can reproduce this fidelity and quality on the new RE engine with a remake of Resident Evil 3, they most certainly should, if for no other reason than to give their customers more of what they love.
Readers should as always bear in mind that this information is speculation, and in no way confirms that a remake of Resident Evil 3 is in production. If true, however, perhaps Capcom is looking to win Game of the Year two years in a row—an impressive achievement.
