Possible New Left 4 Dead Game in the Works

It hasn’t been long since Valve announced that the Half-Life series is getting revived, and there’s already rumors floating around that Left 4 Dead might be coming back as well. It should be noted that this isn’t the first time there have been possible leaks about the game series. There were also some supposed leaks before the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, so it could be the same story for this classic zombie shooter.

This rumor originated from the owner of Valve News Network, Tyler McVicker, who posted a tweet on December 8, 2019, talking about Left 4 Dead VR being a real thing and the fact that Half-Life: Alyx will be talked about at the Game Awards. There is no way to confirm that the news about Left 4 Dead is true, but if the part about the new Half-Life game turns out to be accurate, it will definitely add some validity to the tweet.

The 2019 Game Awards are tomorrow night, so it won’t be long until everyone finds out if this tweet should be taken more seriously or not.

The Left 4 Dead franchise would lend itself well to a VR experience, so it would make sense for Valve to pursue it. The first two games had a focus on fighting endless hordes of zombies while trying to complete an objective. Transferring this to VR would give players a game type that they have not yet encountered in the virtual world.

Many VR games use horror tactics since “being in the game” leads to bigger and better jump scares. This could be a mechanic utilized in Left 4 Dead VR as well. During points of the game that don’t have huge hordes of zombies coming at you, they could put in a jump scare or two.

Regardless of what does or does not get confirmed from Tyler McVicker’s tweet, however, people shouldn’t get too excited about the possibility of a VR Left 4 Dead game until it actually gets announced. Considering the fact that Half-Life: Alyx was only announced a month ago, it still might be a while until we get any real confirmation.
