Konami Not Abandoning Game Development

In a recent announcement to investors, Konami announced an organizational restructuring in which it’s stated that the company is “dissolving the Production Divisions to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us”.

The statement seemed like the last nail in the coffin for a published who has seen it’s biggest IPs stagnated for the better part of the last decade.

Following the concern of fans, the company has released a new official statement in which they explain that they’re not abandoning the video games industry. This is what Konami told IGN:

The announcement made refers to an internal restructure, with Production Divisions being consolidated. We have not ‘shut down’ our video gaming division.

Konami went for being one of the most critically acclaimed video game company on the market. The Japanese giant was responsible for producing Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill. Their IPs are currently frozen by the publisher who does not announce new projects or hire third-party development studios for the development of games that fans have been desperately asking.

Konami can’t deny their disinterest in the video games market, the company has changed its focus to arcade machines, specifically gambling machines called Pachinko. The company is still producing Pro Evolution Soccer and recently released Metal Gear Survive, Contra: Rouge Corps, and Super Bomberman R. All of the latest releases saw mixed-to-poor reviews.

It was reported that Sony tried to convince Konami to produce a reboot of the Silent Hill franchise, the project was headed to Kojima Productions, a team largely established by former employees of Team Silent. Following months of rumors, Konami denied any involvement with Sony and the possible development of a new Silent Hill game.
