Gods and Monsters Gameplay Leaked

Gods and Monsters was announced at E3 last year, developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the same team behind Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. A 30 second clip of the developer build was leaked on Google Stadia today, featuring a third-person view of much of the landscape the game will include.

The clip implies that the game is still in very early development, most of the current audio are just placeholders, and much of the world is still unpopulated. Many have pointed out that the game-play is similar to that of Breath of the Wild and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Gods and Monsters will use the same stamina system for climbing and combat as seen in Breath of the Wild, and uses a similar shading style as the Zelda title.

The game is based around Greek gods and monsters, hence the name. The title will be entirely narrated by Homer, who is retelling a tale to his grandchildren. The player will take control of the fully customizable Fenyx, and explore the ‘Isle of the Blessed’. The player will be assisting the gods of Olympus to fight back against a deadly creature called Typhon.

“The stories of the ancient gods and their misadventures have existed through generations of storytelling and audiences, and have transformed into tales we still know and love today, now these stories have shaped our dreams and helped us build something new.”

During the player’s journey, they will meet a whole host of characters that inhabit Mount Olympus, as well as face a large range of enemies like gorgons and hydras.

At the initial E3 conference, the game’s release was set for around February 2020, but it looks like the game has quite a ways to go before release. According to Ubisoft, games like Watch Dogs: Legion, Rainbow Six: Quarantine, and Gods and Monsters will all see delays in order to optimize the games for next gen consoles.
