Diablo IV Game Director Promises Quarterly Updates

A letter to fans from Diablo IV game director Luis Barriga appeared on Blizzard’s official Diablo site today, promising quarterly updates and clarifications to come soon.

In the letter, Barriga thanks fans for testing the demo version of Diablo IV that was available on the floor at BlizzCon, stating that they “floored by the overall reception—especially from long-time Diablo players. “We were blown away by how often we met people who came back to play the demo again and again,” the letter reads. “The stories you shared with us about Diablo and what this series means to you moved us, and inspire us to do our best.”

Barriga then goes on to say that the Diablo IV team has been taking the time since BlizzCon to assess and discuss what they learned from fan feedback and discussions around the game. Further, he promises a “cool update” planned for February of 2020, which is slated to be the first in a series of quarterly updates meant to keep fans in the loop regarding D4’s development progress.

In closing his letter, Barriga stated that the Diablo IV team wants fans to know that they are “having the same conversations about items and stats” that players are, and that they are reading all feedback, whether on the official discussion threads, or external sites such as Reddit. “Getting this right is at the top of our minds,” the letter says, before going on to say that in the next few weeks, lead systems designer David Kim will provide some clarifications, share thoughts, and address some player questions.
