It is fair to point out that ther live service title from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, Marvel’s Avengers, has not had the best go of it when it launched last year. In a recent earnings call Company President and Representative Director Yosuke Matsuda stated it was “an ambitious title for us in that we took on the GaaS (Games as a Service) model. It has unfortunately not proven as successful as we would have liked.” He then suggested the company has learned heavily from the experience.

That being said though, Marvel’s Avengers will not be closing its doors yet and still have a Year 2 planned for the game moving forward. The last big content drop that is expected for the game this year will hit on November 30 and included the PlayStation exclusive character Spider-Man, which should hopefully diversify the roster of heroes more, at least on one system.

Alongside the new character all players will be getting the games first 4-person raid mission, entitled Klaw Raid: Discordant Sound, which is something the game has desperatly needed. It will extend the narrative set forth by the recent War For Wakanda expansion that released in August. That expansion added a new area, new missions, and a playable Black Panther, voiced by Christopher Judge.

Other things that will be added to the game will include:

  • Shipments – The Shipments feature provides an entirely new path to earn coveted cosmetics, resources, and other items strictly through gameplay, a highly requested option from the Marvel’s Avengers community. Each Shipment costs 500 Units (the currency earned while playing the game) and pulls from a collection of nearly 250 possible items, with a small chance of rewarding a premium Outfit unavailable via any other means of acquisition. But luck isn’t required to get the Outfit; players will automatically receive it after claiming 100 Shipments.
  • Power-Level Increase – The maximum Power Level achievable will increase from 150 to 175. Acquiring the best gear requires players to complete the game’s toughest challenge: the new four-player Klaw Raid: Discordant Sound.
  • Gear Upgrading – Players will be able to recycle gear of a higher power level to upgrade their current gear to match the higher-power level of the consumed item, with few exceptions.

Spider-Man will feature a storyline similar to other characters that have been added into the game thusfar, though much of the player base will not get to experience it, especially those that have just started playing the game through Xbox Game Pass.

Recently, a controversy came in the for of paid XP boosters being added to the game which in earlier statements Crystal Dynamics stated they had no plan to do. This was exacerbated because XP growth in game was throtteled prior to the release of Clint Barton A.K.A Hawkeye due to the studio claiming they wanted to extend leveling. These boosters, after massive fan backlash, were removed a week later.
