According to a new rumor, Microsoft’s Xbox Series S will launch for a significantly lower price compared to its Japanese counterpart, the PlayStation 5. Eastmen, alleges to have heard the information directly from Microsoft, and he leaked the information on the Beyond3D forums.

“Last I heard [it’ll] be half the price of the XSX [Xbox Series X] and last I heard MS [Microsoft] were prepared for a $400 XSX. I am not sure what the final price will be,” said eastmen. “I think if Sony is $500/$600 MS may try to go in at $200/$400/$500 but we will see.”
The Xbox Series S is expected to be the entry level Xbox console, the all digital version of the Series X is expected to feature a more compact design and a overall lower production cost. The console would also have a discrete hardware capable of playing next gen games, while maintaining a competitive price. Lockhart would still conserve some of the key components that boast the Series X, for example, the NVMe storage device.
WindowsCentral reports that Series S was being tested by Xbox employees, suggesting that the console may be launching along the Series X.
Last week, Generacion Xbox caught a new Microsoft patent for the name “Xbox Series”, this unofficially confirms that Microsoft is ready to launch more than one console. In late April, 2020, it was a Microsoft’s trademark listing for a ‘Series X’ logo that sparked speculation about the potential launch of Project Lockhart in 2020.
Interestingly, the Xbox branding is nowhere to be seen in the logo, this could confirm that, ‘Xbox’, ‘Series X’ and ‘Series S’ will be three different marketing brands that will differentiate the products of the company.
