Due to COVID-19, The Game Awards 2020 was different from previous shows, the event couldn’t host a live audience, and the celebrities and developers participated via video stream directly from their locations. This years’ event was not held back by the pandemic disease, as Keighley prepared an event full of announcements and surprises.
The virtual show used three soundstages, in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo. The show featured performances “Last Surprise” by Lyn Inaizumi from Persona 5 Strikers, a medley of Super Mario music by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and “Future Days” by Eddie Vedder from The Last of Us Part II.
Several guests and celebrities took place as special guests and award presenters, former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé, Brie Larson, Gal Gadot, Troy Baker Nolan North, Keanu Reeves, Tom Holland, and John David Washington.
The clear winner of the night is, without doubt, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II. The game won seven awards, including Game of the Year.
