According to new information from GSC Game World, STALKER 2 will feature a new character and its development is “progressing smoothly”.

STALKER 2 was announced during the Xbox Game Showcase in July 2020, on that day, the studio teased the aesthetic, creepy atmosphere, and vision for the next-gen game. Now 6 months after its reveal, the development team shared an in-engine gameplay teaser.

Following the steps of its predecessors, Stalker 2 introduces a completely new main protagonist. His actions will shape the new grand chapter in the history of the Zone.

The short scene takes place in the ruined school on the outskirts of the dead town of Pripyat. That’s an extremely dangerous place, and nobody would like to be here on their will. Still, the place doesn’t seem completely abandoned: there is a freshly started fire with a guitar nearby. However, Skif hardly has time to acknowledge that: he seems in a hurry. It looks like an inevitable danger is following him.

And here it is: an emission. A signature part of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, a powerful release of the anomalous energy from the center of the Zone. Emission happens from time to time and it’s extremely dangerous: it can kill you in the blink of an eye. When a stalker notices a start of emission, they should hide immediately and wait for the end of it, hoping they can get through. So that’s why Skif is in a hurry: he is certainly looking for cover in the nearby building.

For those who don’t know, the Stalker series is based on the nuclear disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986, in the game, that disaster was not the only one, a second explosion hit the reactor in2006, creating The Zone. The Stalker franchise is based on the Zone, a dangerous place, filled with mutated creatures, deadly radiation, and strange, anomalous energy.

Stalker 2 will feature a living world simulating system enhanced of A-Life, the 2.0 version of the feature will control the state of the world, and the behavior of the characters and mutants. One of the visions of GSC Game World was to offer every player to have their unique playthrough, A-Life 2.0 will empower players to make the developers’ dream a reality. Decisions made by the player will not cause only short-term outcomes but will shape the world itself.

Stalker 2 will launch with  4K ray-traced support on Xbox Series X. It’s also confirmed that the game launch Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass.
