Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced yesterday during Sony’s Future of Gaming, a report from The Telegraph indicated that the game was “an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game.” Insomniac Games has made the situation clear for everyone, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales should be taken as a standalone game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe.

The misinformation began as Simon Rutter, EVP head of European business at Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented in interview with The Telegraph, “I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game.” Rutter went on to explain, “There’s a substantial Miles Morales component — which is the expansion element — but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”
Miles is the son of Jefferson Davis, an officer that helped Peter Parker in the first game. The trailer features narration from Peter, telling Miles to follow in his father’s footsteps. Towards the end of the previous Spiderman game, we see Miles getting bitten by a radioactive spider, similar to the one that bit Peter to give him his superhuman abilities.
The trailer did not feature a lot of new abilities or gameplay, but it did show off Miles’ electric venom blasts as well as an updated version of his suit. Players may also be able to change the game’s day and night cycle.
According to the PlayStation Blog the new game will see significant improvements, including “near-instantaneous fast-travel across Marvel’s New York City” and “highly-detailed character models and enhanced visuals,”.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a launch title for the PlayStation 5.
