Spiderman: Miles Morales Announced For PlayStation 5

The first new title to be shown off at PlayStation 5’s event today was Spiderman: Miles Morales, set for the holiday of 2020, likely coinciding with the release of the PS5. It will be a sequel to the events of Insomniac’s first Spiderman title in 2018. Instead of Peter Parker, fans can look forward to playing as his protegé, Miles.

Miles is the son of Jefferson Davis, an officer that helped Peter Parker in the first game. The trailer features narration from Peter, telling Miles to follow in his father’s footsteps. Towards the end of the previous Spiderman game, we see Miles getting bitten by a radioactive spider, similar to the one that bit Peter to give him his superhuman abilities.

The trailer did not feature a lot of new abilities or gameplay, but it did show off Miles’ electric venom blasts as well as an updated version of his suit. Players may also be able to change the game’s day and night cycle.

This will be the second game that Insomniac announced for the PlayStation 5, followed by Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Both games will presumably be PlayStation exclusives, as both previous titles were as well.

The first Spiderman title is still the record holder for the best selling superhero game ever, having sold roughly 13.2 million copies. The second game is likely to match its success, if not overcome it. Assuming that Spiderman: Miles Morales is released around the same time as the PlayStation 5, the game will likely be offered as a bundle with the console.

The exact date for the release of Spiderman: Miles Morales has yet to be announced. More details regarding the game and release date will likely be announced soon.
