Sagard NewGen Acquires a Minority Stake From Asobo Studio

Following the successful launch of Microsoft’s Flight Simulator, Asobo Studio has decided to open its capital to investors. Sagard NewGen has now acquired a minority stake from Asobo.

The deal consists of Sagard NewGenacquiring a minority stake in Asobo Studio and allows to associate more employees with the capital of the company. With Sagard NewGen aboard, Asobo Studio gains a strong ally to support its growth, while preserving its strategic and creative autonomy.

In a joint statement, Asobo’s CEO Sebastian Wloch, chief creative officer David Dedeine, and COO Grégory Carreau stated:

“The Sagard NewGen team has been really enthusiastic, professional, and flexible. Their ability to understand the specifics of our industry and to embrace the studio DNA definitely convinced us. We’re proud to be supported by such a renowned firm, and we are confident this will be a fruitful and virtuous partnership.”

The management of Sagard NewGen also shared a few words about the acquisition:

Asobo Studio is a very talented development team, they produced A Plague Tale: Innocence in a partnership with Focus Home Interactive, the game is praised for its artistic direction, gameplay experience, and narrative design. It was celebrated by many awards, including the Outstanding Story-Rich Game Steam Award.

Last year a partnership with Microsoft saw the release of the highly anticipated next-gen Microsoft’s Flight Simulator, the game managed to receive a 91/100 Metacritic score and more than 2 million unique users to date, the game is a technical breakthrough that also won Best Sim/Strategy Game at the Game Awards 2020.
