Rare Studios Reveals New IP at X019

As one of the earliest reveals for X019, Rare Studios unveiled Everwild, a new IP using the Games as a Service model (i.e. Sea of Thieves).

The reveal trailer showed Everwild as a world flush with colorful forest scenery, diverse wildlife, and human forest-dwellers. The game hints at a symbiotic relationship between humans and some of the title’s wildlife. However, the trailer also offered a glimpse of possible tensions between humans and more aggressive predators.

The game’s wildlife appears similar in design to those found in No Man’s Sky.

According Craig Duncan, the Studio Head at Rare, on the Xbox’s news page:

  • “The Everwild team is focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world.”
  • Everwild will give you memorable, engaging, and meaningful experiences for players everywhere to share.”

If the trailer is any indication, the game looks as if it will feature stealth elements to survive, but not much about the actual gameplay mechanics were revealed at X019.

No official release date for the game was announced.. Everwild will release for both the Xbox One and Windows 10.

Rare Studios is best known for its platform shooters, such as Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64, and Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves, which the company has been working on since E3 2015 and released for Xbox One and Windows 10. The company is a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios under Microsoft’s umbrella.

Other titles developed by Rare Studios include Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct, Star Fox Adventures, and Banjo-Kazooie.

This new IP comes along with several other announcements from X019.
