Microsoft Studios It’s Now Called Xbox Game Studios

At today’s Inside Xbox the Vice President of Microsoft studios Matt Booty made the announcement that Microsoft Studios name was changing to Xbox Game Studios, he confirmed that the 13 studios that are owned by Xbox Game Studios will continue their current operations without changes or compromises.

The move is largely a rebrand and does not change the position of the 13 studios that comprise what is now called Xbox Game Studios: 343 Industries, The Coalition, Compulsion Games, The Initiative, inXile Entertainment, Minecraft, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, Rare, Turn 10 Studios, Undead Labs, and Xbox Global Publishing.

“At Xbox, we believe when everyone plays, we all win,” Booty said during the stream, “It’s why we’re passionate about building a portfolio of games for players across console, PC, and mobile. As we’ve expanded our focus beyond the console, the Xbox brand has also evolved from its original roots. Today, Xbox is our gaming brand across all devices, no matter how or where you want to play, or who you want to play with.”

This change must’ve been made so players associate the giant developer and publisher with the service that Xbox it’s trying to get in the hands of players, Xbox Game Pass.

Today it was also revealed the new games that are joining Xbox Game Pass in February:

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider – February 7
  • The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season – February 7
  • Pumped BMX Pro – February 7
  • de Blob – February 14
  • Crackdown 3 – February 15 (Also on PC via Play Anywhere)
  • Batman: Return to Arkham – February 21
