PlayStation To Limit Download Speeds to Manage Higher User Traffic

Due to social distancing protocols, more users has been using the PlayStation Network, inevitably, Sony Europe is having a really tough time to keep the services working, in order to keep delivering good experience throughout all users, Sony’s CEO Jim Ryan has announced Sony’s decision to implement certain limitations in the download speeds in Europe.

Playing videogames enables players all over the world to connect with friends and family and enjoy much-needed entertainment during these uncertain times. Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with internet service providers in Europe to manage download traffic to help preserve access for the entire Internet community.

We believe it is important to do our part to address Internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are practising social distancing and are becoming more reliant on Internet access.

Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay. We appreciate the support and understanding from our community, and their doing their part, as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone.

Reports from Standard points at Netfix, Amazon, Youtube and Disney who where forced by server strain to follow a similar path. Coronavirus has forced governments to implement quarantines, citizens are looking for electronic media to keep themselves entertained. Gaming is the perfect hobby for some, as it also helps feel close to friends. Steam has been breaking their concurrent user record, over 20 million players have reached the launcher for entertainment.

Steam, Epic Games and Ubisoft had announced special offer in their respective launchers in an attempt to keep people safe and entertained. Stay Home and Play is the name of Square Enix’s campaign, Tomb Raider and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be free to play for a limited time on on Steam.
