PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation Announces State of Play for Thursday

A lot of people have been suggesting that July 8th would be the next major PlayStation event from Sony. As such we have been hearing lots of rumors as to what we might expect. The biggest on this list included, more God of War, Bluepoints studio Acquisition, and possibly 80 to 90 minutes of new looks, gameplay, and more. There might be a major PlayStation event still coming, however, on July 8th that rumored event is not.

Sony confirmed that the State of Play will occur on July 8th. State of Play has been their forum to make smaller announcements through the year and not have one big showcase at E3. By definition State of Plays have never been major, and their last two big ones focused on singular games.

With this event, we can expect it to follow a similar format. It will clock in at around 30 minutes, well short of what rumors have been placing it at. On top of that, the biggest game they have announced to be shown is Bethesda’s upcoming Deathloop, which will take up 9 minutes of the show.

Outside of that, no major confirmations have been made as to what we can expect. They did state that the rest of the show will showcase both indie titles as well as third-party titles. While not confirmed, I am choosing to hold out hope Final Fantasy XVI will be shown off.

As for major rumors, PlayStation was quick to shut down the biggest one. They close their PlayStation Blog post by stating:

This showcase will not include updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, or the next generation of PlayStation VR. Stay tuned throughout the summer though, as we’ll have more updates soon.

All in all, it should be an interesting watch, but definitely a far cry from what games have been told to expect by the usual leakers. Bluepoint has also started to push back against rumors that their purchase will be announced during the state of play.

The show will be held July 8, at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, and 11pm  CEST.
