Nintendo Switch to Support Game Boy Games – Rumor

According to new rumors from a ResetEra user, Nintendo Switch could be backward compatible with some Game Boy Advance games, the leaker affirms that Nintendo will make the announcement today, December 1, 2020.

The Nintendo Switch Online services only offer NES and SNES when it comes to classic games. Fans are expecting Nintendo to expand the support of Game Boy and Nintendo 64 titles. Certainly, it’s intriguing that the alleged insider claims that the announcement will take place later today, and it adds veracity to his affirmations as it’s usual that rumors are vague and imprecise.

It’s important to mention that the information does not come from a reliable source, the user has no track record to back up his claims.

If we are to analyze the recent strategy by Nintendo it is possible that adding support of Game Boy Advance classics is in the best interest of Shuntaro Furukawa. The president of the company is consolidating the Nintendo brand with their tried-and-true IPs, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake, and several remasters of the Super Mario franchise was released recently as a celebration of the game’s 30th anniversary.

It’s reported that the whole library of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection is running through an emulator, something that is perfect for Nintendo as the company practically does not invest in the development of the ports. This could be essential for Nintendo’s next big move, the rumored Switch 2, or Switch Pro.

Nintendo has reportedly asked its third-party development partners to produce future games on 4K. A more powerful revision of the Nintendo Switch might use NVIDIA’s DLSS, a technique that uses AI to upscale games to higher resolutions.
