Larian CEO Says Players Don’t Need To Play The Older Divinity Games

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke stated that players do not need to have played the earlier Divinity titles before jumping into the newly announced Divinity. He explained that while the upcoming game will reference events from past entries, such as Divinity: Dragon Knight Saga and Ego Draconis, those who were drawn to Baldur’s Gate 3 for its cinematic experience should not feel compelled to revisit the older Divinity games unless they “want to know the lore.” Vincke added that players interested in “tactical combat, or co-op multiplayer, or really having lots of freedom” should consider trying Divinity: Original Sin 2. However, he noted that the games released before that are “a bit outdated by now” and “are quite old.”

In a separate interview with Bloomberg earlier this month, Vincke revealed that Divinity is planned to launch in early access, similar to Baldur’s Gate 3. He also indicated that the game is unlikely to release next year and that its overall development cycle will be shorter.

The game’s details:

The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.

Built by the team who brought you Baldur’s Gate III, Larian Studios unchains its ambitions to bring you an RPG with greater breadth and depth than ever before.

At least, that’s the plan.

While Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity.
