Indie Action Game Sifu Shows New Trailer

An indie game in development is trying its damnedest to conjure all the feels you might expect from a Hong Kong action flick from the ’80s. And based on its latest trailer, it is doing a pretty good job. Upcoming game Sifu is like the martial arts films you grew up on. In the latest look at it, we see the main character arrive at a nightclub and from there, things get a tad insane.

The store of the game, as outlined in a press release is as follows:

Sifu tells the story of a young Kung Fu student who has spent their life training for a day of reckoning after the brutal murder of their entire family by a mysterious assassination squad. Hunt down the murderers one by one as you explore gang-ridden suburbs, hidden corners deep within the city, all the way to the cold hallways of corporate towers. Adaptation and careful positioning are the key to your survival and you must use everything at your disposal to succeed in your life’s mission.

As we see in the trailer, the combat is quick and brutal. Always in his fighting stance, he closes the distance and unleashes brutal hits and skilled blocks to take down his enemies. At one point during the trailer, we even see him quickly grab a weapon and start cracking skulls with that as well.

The biggest question left after a trailer like this is how you play. Similar to the first trailer shown for the game there are no prompts on anything. This does a great job showcasing how cinematic the game is, but it raises questions about how free-flowing the combat works.

Sifu is being developed by Sloclap. It is slated to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store sometime in 2021.
