Cyberpunk 2077 Returning To PlayStation Store

Cyberpunk 2077 is not inherently a bad game. There is a lot to love in the overall experience of playing the game. Unfortunately, for a large chuck of the playerbase, it was impossible to see that the good part through all the bugs, texture issues, and overall poor state the game released in.

It was so bad when it first launched that Sony made the decision to pull it from the PlayStation store since the company had no refund plan in place. After nearly 200 days of being off of the store, it finally appears that the game will be returning.

A regulatory disclosure made by CD Projekt, the parent company of CD Projekt Red, it was stated that:

In relation to Current Report no. 66/2020 of 18 December 2020, the Management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw hereby publicly discloses the decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to reinstate the availability of the digital edition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store, effective on 21 June 2021.

Unfortunately, it seems that this decision did not come due to the issues surrounding the game being fixed. While the game has received multiple patches and hotfix’s, and a large number of issues have indeed been fixed, Sony still cautions against attempting to play the game on-base PS4s.

According to a spokesperson, “Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”

In fairness, this is not the best situation for anybody to be in. The company made an apology earlier this year due to not focusing their efforts for the game on prior gen. While it is easy to understand nobody wants to release a game plagued with issues, it is not a good look for the company.

If you were looking to pick the game up digitally through PlayStation Store you can do so on June 21, 2021.
