Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn to Become a Trilogy, Sequel in Development

According to VGC, there is a lot of information leaking from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla Games, Horizon Zero Dawn is set to become a trilogy, and the sequel is being produced at the moment for the PlayStation 5. VGC reports that Guerrilla Games originally envisioned the game as a trilogy, but it was uncertain would be successful. The game was critically acclaimed, managing to sell 2.6 million copies in the first couple of weeks.

Information about Horizon Zero Dawn 2 was confirmed in 2019 by the actress Janina Gavankar, when she said “Just wait until you see the sequel(…)You’re gonna die. I know some secrets. You’re gonna die.”

Insiders told VGC that Guerrilla Games originally wanted the sequel to arrive the PlayStation 4. Sony Interactive Entertainment has moved the development of the game for the PlayStation 5. The sequel is reported to have a co-op mode, this would allow players to join on the main campaign, or play a side story designed for multiplayer.

The next installment, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, started development soon after the first game’s successful release, sources said. Initially, the game was planned for PlayStation 4. However, it’s thought that development has now entirely shifted focus to Sony’s next-generation console.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is said to be ‘gigantic’ in scope with a larger game world and more freedom to explore it than in its predecessor. People with knowledge of the game also indicated the inclusion of a co-op feature, although it’s not clear if this is delivered via the main story or a separate mode.

Interestingly, VGC does not reports anything about the third game, it’s possible because Guerrilla just don’t want to jinx it, or perhaps the Sony Interactive Entertainment is waiting to see how good the sequel will do before even start producing the third game.
