Hellblade II Announced at 2019 Game Awards

Ninja Theory has announced Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II at last night’s Game Awards for Xbox Series X. It is uncertain if this new entry into the series will be an Xbox exclusive, but it was shown off using the Series X engine. Phil Spencer confirmed that the trailer was running in real-time, not prerecorded like some people thought.

It was so hard for some to believe because the trailer itself was a masterpiece. If a person wasn’t told that this was a trailer for a video game before watching it, they would have most likely assumed that it was a new movie trailer – it looked that realistic. Other than its stunning performance, the trailer didn’t have too much info to give. The main focus was Senua chanting with others in the background, with occasional scenes showing some warriors getting into formation to take on an enemy.

Lucky for fans though, that’s all they needed. The original game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, was one of the best received games of 2017. Gamers and critics both praised it for it’s take on a person dealing with psychosis. While the Norse mythology themes and excellent storytelling were some of the better parts of the game, some people didn’t enjoy the combat or puzzle-solving in it as much. These are areas that Ninja Theory will most likely try to improve on for the sequel.

It looks like Microsoft made a good call acquiring Ninja Theory last year. With Bleeding Edge coming out and Hellblade II presumably not too long after that, the Xbox is going to have some great games to look forward to in the lead up to the new console release.
