Geoff Keighley has announced the Summer Game Festival 2020, from May to August 2020, the event will ‘celebrate video games from the comfort of home.’ The event is a season of digital video game events from publishers, select playable content, in-game events, and more to be announced.

The events’ Phase 1 has been revealed today by Geoff Keighley, the event counts with the support of the heavy weights of the industry.

Summer Game Fest will include major news and announcements, in-game events and DLC is confirmed to arrive for players on Steam and Xbox. According to Keighley, the seasonal event is a “positive, uplifting center of gravity to bring this global community together.” Summer Game Fest is a series of events, at the moment of writing, counts with over 16 partners. The event is all digital, it will be live on Twitch, Mixer, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Those with a keen eye, or fans of the company surely noticed that Nintendo is nowhere to be seen in the announcement of the festival. The company stated that after the cancellation of E3 2020, they would be hosting their own Direct streams, but it was recently known that, the company is struggling with the COVID-19 and the remote work policy, thus, Nintendo Direct has been delayed. Nintendo is invited by Keighley who says they’re “always welcome!”

Born due to the necessity of organizing an event, adapted to the challenges presented by COVID-19 and without the polemic ESA around, Summer Game Fest appears to had arrived to stay. Keighley insist that there will be many Summer Game Fest, suggesting that developers joined forces to make their vision of a better E3.

The new event will be all digital for this year, a “big season finale” is confirmed to be broadcasted on August 24, 2020 with Gamescom: one Night Live and the former E3 2020 Creative Directors iam8bit.
