Epic Games Store Free Thursday Free Thursdays Adds Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

The Epic Games Store free Thursdays continues with another AAA title, today, the digital distribution platform offers Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. For free, the collection bundles Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel with all its DLC for both games.

Developed by Gearbox Software Borderlands 2 launched in 2012 as “a game made by gamer for gamers”,  according to 2K the unique visual art style, the insane amount of loot and guns and the role-playing-shooting combinations adds up for a truly unique and addictive experience. The game is one of the highest-rated titles in the history of 2K.

Taking place five years after the events of the original game. Borderlands 2 features new characters and skill trees, diverse new environments, missions and enemies, as well as weapons and equipment with more personality.

Borderlands Pre-Sequel released for PC PS4 and Xbox One in 2014,  being a less ambitious project, the game still managed to exceed expectations and is a great addition to the Epic Game Store’s library. The game was co-developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. Taking place in-between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a great introduction into the franchise while showcasing Handsome Jack’s transformation into the ruthless tyrant fans loved to hate in Borderlands 2.

While this is most likely another showcase of Epic Games’ intention to dethrone Steam as the biggest PC game launcher, there may be something behind why Borderlands 2 is being offered for free. At early 2020, a rumor appeared on Reddit, the user who goes by the name ‘Hereismydude’ is known for having previously leaked information from Telltale’s games, said that Tales of Borderlands 2 was a project that will arrive in the future.

Tales from the Borderlands 2 is going to happen in the future (already planned to be Telltale’s next big game, but it will still be a few years until its revealed) Gearbox is working out a deal for Telltale to have season 1 back as we speak, AdHoc is on board for season 2.
