Bluepoint Games Pitched a Bloodborne Remake But Was Rejected

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Bluepoint Games pitched a remake of Bloodborne to Sony before its recent shutdown, but the proposal was rejected. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the report states that while the financial projections were considered viable, the original developer, FromSoftware, did not approve the project. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, former Sony Interactive Entertainment head of independent games Shuhei Yoshida theorized that Sony’s reluctance to revisit the Bloodborne IP may stem from respect for FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, who directed the game.

“I left first-party, so I don’t know what’s going on,” Yoshida said at the time. “But my theory is, because I remember Miyazaki-san really really loved Bloodborne, what he created—I think he’s interested [in remaking the game], but he’s so successful and so busy that he cannot do it himself. But he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory. And the PlayStation team would respect his wishes.”

The report also claims that, prior to its closure, Bluepoint pitched several other projects, including an updated version of Shadow of the Colossus and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, both of which were declined. Bloodborne originally launched on March 24, 2015.

In a recent Bloomberg report, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that it will shut down Bluepoint Games in March. Bluepoint Games was acquired by Sony in September 2021, about a year after the release of the Demon’s Souls remake. Following the acquisition, the studio worked as a co-developer on God of War Ragnarok and was also involved in an unannounced God of War live-service game, which was canceled in January 2025.
