Back 4 Blood Requires An Internet Connection

While not the biggest game coming, Back 4 Blood has been on a lot of gamers’ radars. Not only is it the team behind the classic Left 4 Dead franchise, but it aims the recapture the experience that made that franchise so great. However, it would appear that despite their efforts, one key feature from the classic will not make the cut.

While being a 4 player co-op game, Left 4 Dead still had a solid offline mode. Two-player split-screen with one of your friends, or simply solo mode, were fun alternative ways to play the game without having to deal with that pesky internet. While single-player with AI control teammates will still be a thing, you will always need to be connected to the internet, at least at launch. There will also be no split-screen play available.

When asked about the offline play, the team at Turtle Rock tweeted that they are currently looking into ways of implementing it in the future.

The game will be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch, which in this context actually feels like an even smarter decision than it did prior. Since the Game Pass largely requires internet to access its library it stands to reason they will be an audience not put out by this.

Internet is far more accessible now than at the time of the original L4D, so this should not affect too many of the gamers who would like to dive into the zombie shooter. However, it is always nice to have the option.

On the other side, the game will include a new mode in which two teams compete against each other and a hoard of the undead. It will also allow the full party to have access to DLC if owned by the party leader. The game will also feature no pay-to-win elements.
