Avengers Adds Paid Experience Booster

Last week Marvel Avengers was added to the Xbox Game Pass and quickly became one of the most plaid games on the console. This was a bright spot after a turbulent year one of both ups and downs for the title. Most likely looking to capitalize on this forward momentum (not to mention a large chunk of new players), timed experience boosters appeared in the games story offing player the ability to pay real money for a brief period in which characters leveled faster.

This stands in stark contrast to the stance developer Crystal Dynamics took the previous year. In an article about gear and cosmetics took from the game official website, it was stated:

We’ve also committed that content purchasable with real money in Marvel’s Avengers will be aesthetic-only additions, which will ensure we can keep the game fresh for years to come.

Currently, the in-game marketplace has three experience booster choices for players. Each one of these offers a 1.5x boost to their experience gained, the difference is that time they last with a week-long option, a three-day option, or a single-day option. These range from 100 in-game currency, which is a dollar, to 500 in-game currency which is five dollars. A free two-hour option allows players to see what this boost can offer, before buying if your so inclined to do so.

As one might expect players are not happy about the companies decision to implement this feature, especially longtime players. This is because in March of this year Crystal Dynamics implemented a slowed feeling system to the game because “which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players.” Even with the slowdown, it is not a long process to actually level your character fully making these purchasable seem pointless.

This is not the first time titles under Square Enix have added leveling purchasable as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was famously lambasted for it upon its release. There is really zero value to purchasing these abilities as leveling the entire available roster should not take so long that anybody would ask for a way to do it faster.
