Animal Crossing Announces 2.0 Update

After a year that was very light on new updates, Animal Crossing: New Horizons had a live stream event that offered a look at a lot of new content coming to the game soon. Referred to as the 2.0 update it will be the last free update that the game will receive moving forward, and is planned to release on November 5 along with the paid expansion called “Happy Home Paradise”.

As many people thought, due to the stream coinciding with his birthday, Brewster was present during the event and will be coming to the game along with his coffee shop The Roost. It will be added to the Museum as it has in most of the previous titles. It offers a place for players to relax with a nice cup of coffee, as well as interact with other characters. It will also feature an Amiibo phone where players can use their amiibo cards to call characters.

Kapp’n will also return, taking players on boat tours to new and mysterious islands. He will hang out on the docks where players can interact with him and go on their way. He will also serenade the player with a sea shanty as they sail from island to island.

Gyroids will now be excavatable as well. So far only fossils have been unearthed by digging up your island but these items, each with unique sounds will now be findable. Players will also be able to invest in Harv’s Island, allowing an open-air marketplace to be added for more shopping options.

Cooking will additionally be added to your DIY options, allowing the player to whip up tasty meals should they have the ingredients. Several other additions will be added to improve island life as well. This includes bigger home storage, more events in the plaza, and more control over elements on the island like how fast weeds grow.

We also got a look at the “Happy Home Paradise” expansion that will cost $24.99, or be available through the Online + Expansion bundle available through the console. Based on the Happy Home Designer spin-off game in the series, it will see the player join a home planning committee where they can help design dream vacation homes for characters.

The final thing that was announced during the event was Series 5 of the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards. This should not be much of a shock since both the expansion and the 2.0 update add content taking advantage of these cards. Packs of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards will cost 5.99 for a pack, with 48 characters being added through series 5.
