Amiga 500 Is Getting A Mini Version

Retro Games, the company behind the Commadore 64 Mini that I never knew I needed till somebody said those words, is now working on an Amiga 500 Mini. Also known as the A500, this was a low-end alternative to the Amiga home computer and was originally released in 1987.

The Mini is set to launch sometime in 2022 and will run consumers $139.99 / £119.99 for purchase. It will release with both a remade version of the original two-button mouse that launched with the system, as well as the 8 button gamepad. Similar to the Commadore Mini the console itself has a decorative keyboard with no function on it, however, it does allow for real keyboards to be plugged in and used.

The system itself will come pre-loaded with 25 classic games, including worms and Simon the Sorcerer. Only 12 of said 25 games have been announced so far, with a complete list of those games below:

  • Alien Breed 3D
  • Another World
  • ATR: All Terrain Racing
  • Battle Chess
  • Cadaver
  • Kick Off 2
  • Pinball Dreams
  • Simon the Sorcerer
  • Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
  • The Chaos Engine
  • Worms: The Director’s Cut
  • Zool: Ninja of the “Nth” Dimension

Now the question that comes to everybody’s mind is, does anybody really need this? The short answer is probably not. This is not like the Nintendo, Sega, or Playstation Mini’s which has a massive built-in fan base. However, as stated at the beginning, I personally thought that the Commadore 64 mini was unnecessary but I ended up feeling that Retro did a great job creating it. Way better than Sony did with their Playstation Mini Anyway.

As somebody who had an old Amiga computer right after the fall of Amiga and loved it, this is something I can say for certain has one person looking forward to it.
