Xbox’s Phil Spencer talks about single player games

Xbox Vice President, Phil Spencer, responded to all of Xbox One owners concerns about the lack of single player exclusives on the Xbox One console when he responded to the IGN Executive Editor of Previews, Ryan McCaffrey, post on Twitter.

Here’s the original post by IGN Executive Editor of previews, and the response that Phil Spencer made on his post:

Gamezone said in an article on their website:

“With God of War, Sony nailed another mega-hit for the PlayStation 4. The line of console exclusives is looking more impressive year-by-year, with the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Bloodborne, to name but a few. While many have argued that single-player games are dying out, its success on the PlayStation has clearly painted a different picture.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has been struggling to produce any single player game on the Xbox One, choosing to rather go for strong multiplayer experiences like the recent Sea of Thieves, and the Xbox One X launched without a console exclusive. I am not saying there have never been exceptional single-player titles on the Xbox. The Gears of War and Halo series’ are both incredible games, both also have strong multiplayer components. The last two single-player only hits on the Xbox One as console exclusives were Ori and the Blind Forest (2015) and Quantum Break (2016).

With E3 approaching, Xbox boldly announced their “biggest E3 showcasing ever” but failed to mention a single word about any new console exclusives. We do have Crackdown and State of Decay 2 that will release later this year, both also with a strong focus on multiplayer. PlayStation 4, on the other hand, is looking very strong this year when it comes to single-player games. God of War releases in a few days, then there’s the upcoming Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and Days Gone (2019). All highly anticipated titles.”

Maybe the response of Phil Spencer on Twitter isn’t what Xbox fans wanted to hear, but it is clear that the Xbox One X is an incredible console, and that Xbox has the advantage over Sony with the backward compatibility feature on their console, and the Xbox Game Pass, allowing Xbox owners to play a lot of games for a monthly fee.

E3 2018 is on the horizon, so there’s a chance we could see some new surprises from Microsoft in the form of new single-player exclusive games that people are waiting eagerly. But these things could take some time, so you should wait and see what Xbox has in store for all their fans in the future.
