Ubisoft to Acquire More Studios in the Near Future

Last Thursday saw Ubisoft’s Financial Report to investors for the closure of the fiscal year. CEO Yves Guillemot revealed something interesting that shows the publisher’s eagerness to grow and offer players new and unique experiences. COVID-19, and games as a service were also discussed topics of the meeting.

COVID-19 has changed the world, big companies like Ubisoft must adapt quickly, apparently the publisher might opt to acquire studios that could develop games as a service in order to increase the funding of more interesting projects.

“We are studying carefully the market these days and if there are opportunities we will take them,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot responded.

“At the same time we have also to tackle these new challenges so it’s taking a little bit of our time.

“For sure, we’ll look at it carefully,” he added.

The company also showed positive signs of economic stability, as it was stated that Ubisoft has access to long-term financing of €1 billion if necessary. Guillemot also warns that COVID-19 might force the delays of some projects.

Ubisoft is reportedly preparing a end of 2020 and a 2021 full of important reveals and announcements, the marketing campaign of the company will begin at Ubisoft’s digital event on July 12, this event will disclose all the information meant to be revealed at this year’s E3.

Ubisoft suffered disappointing results in the recent years, the company has changed key aspects of the production in hopes of delivering better results,Ubisoft revamped their editorial team, Maxime Béland, a man with over two decades of experience at Ubisoft was appointed to be the new Vice-President of the new team, under his direction, five AAA titles are reportedly coming for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in 2021. The company also decided to take a try on the digital distribution market, as the company has their own launcher with special offers similar to was it’s being done at Epic Games Store.
