In a recent interview on the Official PlayStation Podcast to celebrate his departure, former Sony Interactive CEO Jim Ryan stated that the PlayStation 5 “is well on track to be the most successful PlayStation console “across multiple vectors”. “I’d say right now we’re at the top of our game,” he said. “We’ve been really clear and really consistent about what we stand for, great consoles, great console gaming experience, and great games. I would say that right now we’re at the top of our game. PlayStation 5 is well on track to be our most successful console ever across multiple vectors and I think the games and the gaming experiences you see on PlayStation 5, lead by PlayStation Studios, are the best that we’ve ever seen.”
Back in December 2023, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 console has sold over 50 million units three years since its launch in 2020. It’s worth noting that Jim Ryan has officially left his position as the CEO as of the end of March. He will be replaced by Hiroki Totoki, Sony Group’s COO and CFO on April 1.
