News hit late last week that Telltale Games, the studio behind story-driven titles like The Walking Dead: Season 1, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Telltale Series, was shutting down. In the process well over 250 employees were fired, with a only a crew of just 25 staying on, allegedly to finish up obligations related to the company’s deal with other games.
Now Telltale is looking for some devs to finish The Walking Dead – Final Season, the last two episodes.
The company had already publicly said that it was working with multiple potential partners to complete and release episodes three and four after the studio laid off approximately 90% of its employees with no warning or severance in late September.
Telltale had provided in a statement to Kotaku after pulling the already completed episodes of the series’ final season from store shelves.
“We’re currently still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes three and four so that the season can be completed,” a spokesperson for the company said at the time. That spokesperson has since also been laid off. “The outcome of those efforts will determine when and how The Final Season returns to stores. We hope to have a firm announcement before the end of the week.”
Lets hope that the company paid to their ex-workers and clean all this situation and finish the game.
A report from Kotaku states that Telltale is negotiating with other companies to complete The Final Season using former members of their workforce—the report quotes anonymous sources said to be involved in the negotiations.
Reportedly, work on the third of four episodes was nearly completed at the time of the studio’s majority closure, with work on the fourth and final episode just beginning. Ideally, the sources say, the entire original development team would return, but as former Telltale workers are seeking other employment, the negotiations are time-sensitive as a result.
The end result of any potential deal, according to the report, would have this separate company bringing former Telltale employees on a contract basis. Funds would come from this other company for development rather than going to Telltale, which otherwise could have been used to provide severance that they did not provide to their employees.
