Steam Deck Has A Launch Date

The latest piece of hardware from Valve, their portable Steam Deck which will allow users to bring PC games on the go in a handheld device, finally has an official launch date. It was announced that it will launch on February 25th, as stated in an official blog post made by Valve.

Users that have pre-ordered the device will receive a confirmation of their request on that day, being given 72 hours to purchase the device forgo their reserved unit for the next person in line. Steam Deck units will then begin to ship on February 28th, with more conformations emails going out to people each week. Valve has also announced that early impressions from the media will also begin to show up soon, then more widely on February 25th.

Additional information outlined on the post is as follows:

  • We will start sending invites shortly after 10:00 am on February 25th, PST

  • Order emails are sent in the same order that reservations were made.

  • You can only order the Steam Deck model that you originally reserved.

  • Your reservation deposit will be applied to the final price of Steam Deck, and shipping costs are included.

Valve initially planned for release in December of 2021, however, they delayed the device by two months owing to their initial build estimates. This delayed the initial release of the handheld, pushing back each wave of pre-orders accordingly.

The Steam Deck offers more than just a way to bring your PC library on the go. Valve has touted its freedom, which allows everything on the device to be installed, allowing for Windows or some other OS to be installed in its place. It also allows for Steams competitors, such as Epic store, to be installed on the device which increases the choice in games to bring with you.
