In a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Gamecast, Bethesda Creative Director Todd Howard revealed that the studio has been working on new content for Starfield that will be revealed “soonish.” However, he clarified that the next update, believed to be “Starfield 2.0,” will not include that content.
“Obviously, we’ve been working on a lot of Starfield content…I can tell everybody we are going to be talking about [the new content] really soon,” Howard said. “We’re moving into a phase where we’re ready to talk about Starfield. And really show that in the right way, and what’s coming to the game. We’ve been doing a lot of work that we like a lot.”
“You know, I’ve seen some of that, so for expectation-setting, I think it’s the kind of thing where if you love Starfield, we think you’re going to love this,” Howard added, in response to Starfield 2.0 expectations. “It’s updates and things that change the game, not in an isolated way, but sort of meta. Using outer space and things in ways that we haven’t.”
According to a report from PPE earlier this month, citing internal documentation from a video game distributor, Starfield is set to launch on April 7. The report includes a screenshot of what appears to be an internal system listing the April 7 release date. If accurate, the PS5 launch may be part of the previously announced “Starfield 2.0” update. Starfield launched in early access on September 1 and fully on September 6 for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
