Square Enix Will Reportedly Layoff 100 Employees In The US and UK

According to a recent report by IGN, Square Enix is in the process of laying off employees in its United Kingdom and United States branches. It’s also rumored that the layoffs potentially impacts more than 100 workers. However, a definite confirmed number is currently unknown. Square Enix confirmed that it is currently “reorganising” its North American and Europe branches. Additionally, according to the report, Square Enix employees have been notified of upcoming lay-offs. US employees are reportedly slated to be dismissed by the end of the week. Around 137 employees are expected to be affected by this reorganisation in the UK.

“We are reorganising our operations in North America and Europe to strengthen our development structure and to drive a globally integrated marketing strategy,” the company stated. “This was an extremely difficult decision, made following careful consideration and analysis by our leadership, to best position the Group’s long-term growth.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the talented team members who will be departing the company for their significant contributions to Square Enix. During this period of transition, we remain committed to treating each individual with the utmost respect and providing extensive support throughout this process.”

Square Enix also plans on closing its overseas game development studios and merging them into its Japan-based offices. This will strengthen “development capabilities from a Group-wide perspective and to optimise resource allocation for maximising the value generated by IPs.”
