Sony Patent Might Be PS5 VR Controller
Sony has filed a patent for their design for a new revolutionary controller which has increased fans expectation for the PS5, this patent suggest that Sony might use a touchscreen for their newest PS5 VR Controller.
Here is the technical explanation from Sony’s patent
“A controller for interfacing wirelessly with a computing device is provided, including the following: a housing defined by a main body, a first extension extending from a first end of the main body, and a second extension extending from a second end of the main body, the first extension and the second extension for holding by a first hand and a second hand of a user, respectively; a touchscreen defined along the top surface of the main body between the first extension and the second extension; a first set of buttons disposed on the top surface of the main body proximate to the first extension and on a first side of the touchscreen; and a second set of buttons disposed on the top surface of the main body proximate to the second extension and on a second side of the touchscreen.”
It’s hard to get an idea of how this would work in the final design, and the image listed in the Sony’s patent doesn’t help at all, but artist Julien Kervarrec following the patent’s explanation has made some illustrations that are quite impressive and are very likely on some aspects, it really seems like it could be a PS5 VR Controller.
“Sony officially announced the existence of its next-generation hardware earlier this year. Though Sony boss Kenichiro Yoshida didn’t officially name the next console, it’s heavily rumoured to follow the usual numbering system and be simply named, PlayStation 5.
Plans are also taking shape for the big PS5 reveal, with Sony having recently hired a Product Manager to plan the roadmap and strategy of the next-gen console.
Sony does file a lot of patents, and many of them don’t see the light of day, so take this rumor with a huge pinch of salt!”
