Sony Is Reportedly Suing Tencent For Copying The Horizon Series

According to a Reuters report, Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Tencent in California Federal Court. According to the report, Sony claims that Tencent stole/copied its Horizon series for the development of its recently announced game Light of Motiram. The lawsuit claims the game is a “slavish clone” featuring identical gameplay, story themes, artistic elements, and more. Sony claims it denied a collaboration request from Tencent to develop a Horizon game back in 2024. Sony also has reportedly asked for an unspecified amount in monetary damages, and is requesting an order that blocks Tencent from violating its intellectual property rights.

Publisher Tencent Games and developer Polaris Quest announced that Light of Motiram will launch for PlayStation 5, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam and Epic Games store sometime in 2025. In Light of Motiram, players “explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals.”
