Silent Hill‘s creator Keiichiro Toyama has founded a new company called Bokeh Game Studio.
Along with Toyama, Kazunobu Sato and Junya Okura share the vision of the company in the announcement video, the new studio will attempt to recapture their passion for video games production, and from the artwork, the game in pre-production may be a horror game.
Junya Okura worked for the Gravity Rush and Siren horror series, he affirms that going indie is hard, as there are more responsibilities, but he is glad to have freedom. Certainly, the three veterans will now be able to fully express their creativity, something that Okura affirms is the most important part of Bokeh Game Studio. “I want to enjoy creating from now on.” Said Okura in the announcement video.
Producer Kazunobu Sato worked on The Last Guardian and also was part of the development team of Siren, he said that “many people we’ve worked within the past will be joining us too.”
Toyama is the chief executive officer (CEO), while Sato took the role of chief operating officer (COO), Okura will be managing the chief technology officer (CTO). The studio defines itself as a company aiming to the “development of software for console and PC,” and a vision to “take on many challenges in the future, regardless of platform.”
Toyama shared a message on the studio’s establishment:
“Having parted with Sony Interactive Entertainment which I have been with for a very long time, we have independently established a new development studio.
“Looking back at my inner self, nothing has really changed at all since day one when I set foot into this industry. Firstly I want players to enjoy games built from ideas with originality, and secondly I want to enjoy making those games—this is all there was to it. Thankfully it was possible for myself and team to develop and release many games. However the gaming industry has rapidly grown globally and is still drastically changing all the time. Day by day, living in these times, I have felt the need for a substantial change to pursue my own ambitions. This is why I have decided to become independent.
“Thankfully I am blessed with a team of colleagues who share the same ambitions as myself, which is why I am able to start this new chapter with a new game studio where we can form our original ideas. We are already under development for our first work, though obviously will need some time before release. We ask for your patience and to look forward to future announcements.”
