Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon reveal new details

Multiple new details have been revealed about Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Two new Ultra Beasts will appear in this installment, there will be early purchase promotion items, and there will even be a New 2DS XL model.

The two new Ultra Beasts are UB Burst and UB Assembly. UB Burst is only in Pokemon Ultra Sun, while UB Assembly is in Ultra Moon. In addition, Necrozma takes over Solgaleo to become Dusk Mane in Ultra Sun and Dawn Wings in Ultra Moon.

While we don’t yet know what the forms will be called in English, the Japanese names translate to Necrozma – Mane of Twilight (when Necrozma absorbs Solgaleo) and Necrozma – Wings of Dawn (when Necrozma absorbs Lunala). Both forms retain Solgaleo and Lunala’s respective signature moves Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam.

This isn’t the first time a “sequel” game has featured a fusion between two Legendary Pokemon. Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 also featured a fusion between Kyurem and Reshiram or Zekrom…depending on which game you owned. In those games, Team Plasma uses a scientific device called a DNA Splitter to forcibly merge the two Legendary Pokemon together. We should note that an ex-Team Plasma member named Colress appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon, seemingly still researching the “true power” of Pokemon.

The early purchase promotion items are Quick Balls and a Rockruff. The Rockruff will evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc and have a special attack. You will also get 12 Quick Balls. This promotion lasts until January 10, 2017.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be released worldwide on November 17.

These new stories will be set within the region of Alola, which we previously explored back in Pokemon Sun and Moon. The Pikachu Island area of Pokemon Sun and Moon could briefly be seen in the Nintendo Direct, meaning that we will be revisiting past locations.

But Pokemon director Junichi Masuda revealed that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would go beyond simply telling new stories, including brand new monsters, as well as new mega-evolutions of the two Legendary Pokemon from each game, these being Solgaleo for Pokemon Sun, and Lunala for Pokemon Moon.
