PlayStation Indies Initiative Announced – Nine Games Will Be Revealed Today

Shuhei Yoshida, Head of PlayStation Indies has just announced the official foundation of the PlayStation Indies Initiative. Yoshida shared the news with the tease of nine games to be announced later today.

Yoshida also confirms that indie games will not only be influential for the PlayStation 5 but will also benefit PlayStation Now subscribers, begging with Hello Neighbor, a new indie game will be added each month to the streaming service.

Ever since I was appointed as Head of Indies Initiative for PlayStation in November the last year, I have been working closely with all departments at Sony Interactive Entertainment to elevate our efforts to help make indie developers’ lives easier and their titles shine in this super competitive videogame market.

The indie community is increasingly important for the future of the video game industry, as AAA game development has grown so financially demanding that big companies are finding it harder to take risks to invest in new concepts that may or may not work.

We trust indie developers with strong vision will continue to bring ideas that have never been tried before, creating whole new genres of games and advancing the art and meaning of video games. PlayStation has always embraced games with completely new concepts, like PaRappa the Rapper, Katamari Damacy, LittleBigPlanet, and Journey, and we look forward to seeing what surprising new ideas will come next!

PlayStation Indies Initiative is just another form of PlayStation to showcase that PS5 is the right console for developers, Yoshida’s offer will surely attract the attention of independent developers who are trying to get their unique creation into a large market, something that the gaming industry needs desperately in a market flooded with FPS battle royale games.
