In a recent video, Youtuber Moore’s Law is Dead claimed that the upcoming PlayStation 6 console will launch alongside a portable handheld version that will be dockable to an external display similar to a Nintendo Switch. The console will allegedly be capable of running games at a level beyond the base PlayStation 5. The console is codenamed “Canis”, and will reportedly have an AMD APU GPU for Zen 6c Cores with two additional cores for system tasks.
The standard PlayStation 6 console on the other hand will have 16 compute units of RDNA 5 at 1.20GHz while in handheld mode, and around 1.65GHz when docked. The console is also rumored to have PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility. Both the PlayStation 6 and the PlayStation 6 handheld will reportedly launch sometime between late 2027 to 2028. It’s worth noting that Sony has yet to officially confirm these details.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced that the price of PlayStation 5 consoles will be increased from August 21. This is due to “a challenging economic environment.” However, the prices for the accessories will remain unchanged. Prices for the consoles notably increased earlier this year in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and Africa.
