Nintendo Will “improve and expand” Nintendo Switch Online As Subscribers Grow

Nintendo has revealed their latest user figures for the Nintendo Switch Online service, showcasing a rise of six million paid subscribers over the last year. These figures place the number of paid subscribers around 32 Million people that are now Switch Online subscribers, which is up from the 26 million of the previous year.

These numbers also do not seem to yet take into account the numbers being generated by their new higher subscription Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion which gives access to some Nintendo 64 games, Sega Genesis, as well as the Paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on top of what is already offered.

The launch of this higher tier subscription, however, has not had a smooth rollout. Users have reported that there are several performance issues with games included with the service, as well as issues with controls in several of these games.

In its latest corporate management meeting,  they discussed improving the service as its numbers grow. It was stated that they would “continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, striving to provide services that satisfy customers.”

While not directly stated, within this it seems that Nintendo has acknowledged the issues with Nintendo 64 Games available through the Expansion service. This also suggests that both the original and expanded service will continue to get support moving forward. A data mining of the Expansion service last week revealed that there might be at least 36 N64 games planned for the service in the future.

It is also important to note that the Nintendo Switch is closing in on 5 years on the market. While a newer version called the OLED Edition was recently released, rumors of a high-end model releasing next year have circulated. These rumors now suggest this might be a new system in the vein of the Nintendo Switch. It should be interesting to see, whichever the case, how they plan to support the service moving forward.
