Nintendo Switch 2 Will Reportedly Be Revealed in June, Nintendo Direct in April

According to recent statements by prominent leaker and content creator PH Brazil, the reveal of the next Nintendo console will be delayed to June. These statements were made on the Famiboards forum. The leaker also claims that Nintendo will host another Direct after the upcoming Partner Showcase in April. He claims that it will either be a Mini or regular Direct, but clarifies that he isn’t sure. In other news, Nintendo announced that the previously rumored Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase will be hosted on February 21. It will last 25 minutes, and will be focused on Nintendo Switch games coming in the first half of 2024.

According to several anonymous sources from VGC and Eurogamer, who have “knowledge of Nintendo’s next-gen console”, the next console will launch in the second half of 2024. The console’s development kits have already been handed out to several partner studios. Additionally, some sources claimed that like the Nintendo Switch, the console will have a portable mode, and it will launch with an LCD screen as opposed to an OLED screen, to reduce costs and required storage for games. The console will also run physical games via a cartridge slot similar to the Nintendo Switch. Details about the console’s backwards compatibility have yet to be revealed. None of these claims have officially been confirmed by Nintendo.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the publisher will keep releasing new titles and content for Nintendo Switch “without being bound by the traditional concept of the platform lifecycle.” He also says that the company “would like to continue to see many consumers play Nintendo Switch, and to maintain our business momentum.” This statement was made during the company’s second quarter financial results presentation as spotted by Gematsu. It likely means that the Switch will continue to receive support even after a new console is eventually released.  Additionally, Furukawa also stated that the paid Nintendo Switch Online service has surpassed a total of 38 million registered users as of September 30, 2023, and that the company also plans on “expanding the content available through Nintendo Switch Online.”
