Nintendo Switch 2 Will Be Revealed by March 31, 2025, Nintendo Direct Coming in June

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa made a statement on Twitter announcing that Nintendo will announce its next console and the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. The fiscal year notably ends on March 31, 2025. Additionally, Furukawa noted that a Nintendo Direct will be held sometime in June. It will focus on the lineup of games for the latter half of 2024. However, “there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

According to a past statement by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the publisher will keep releasing new titles and content for Nintendo Switch “without being bound by the traditional concept of the platform lifecycle,” and states that the company “would like to continue to see many consumers play Nintendo Switch, and to maintain our business momentum.” This statement was made during the company’s second quarter financial results presentation as spotted by Gematsu. It likely means that the Switch will continue to receive support even after a new console is eventually released.  Additionally, Furukawa also stated that the paid Nintendo Switch Online service has surpassed a total of 38 million registered users as of September 30, 2023, and that the company also plans on “expanding the content available through Nintendo Switch Online.”

The full statement reads:

“This is [Shuntaro] Furukawa, president of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.

“We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”
