Square Enix is celebrating Nier’s tenth anniversary with two big announcements, an upgraded Nier Replicant for PS4, PC and Xbox One, and an mobile version of Nier Reincarnation.
“NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, an upgraded version of the original, is now in development for PS4, Xbox One and Steam!” the developer said via Twitter “Enter an apocalyptic world as you play as a brother on a quest to cure his sister of a deadly disease in this unique action RPG.”
Square Enix confirmed that Nier Replicant will feature new voice works, remastered music. Keiichi Okabe, the game’s composer will be joining the team and will produce new tracks. The story of the game might be expanded too, new characters and new endings might arrive in the final version according to reports.
Nier Replicant was announced today during a livestream to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the franchise. Platinum Games won’t be involved in the port, the development will be led by Toylogic – Takahisa Taura, the senior game designer on Nier: Automata.
Nier Reincarnation, on the other hand, will follow the games as a service format. Releasing for Android and iOS devices, Square Enix has confirmed that the game will launch free-to-play with microtransactions. Nier Reincarnation is being developed by Applibot with character design led by CyDesignation.
Nier released a decade ago as a spin-off from the Drakengard series. Nier events take place over one thousand years after the ending of Drakengard. The main character adventure starts as he is looking to find a cure for an illness, known as the Black Scrawl, to which his sister has succumbed. Partnering with a talking book known as Grimoire Weiss, he journeys with two other characters, Kainé and Emil, as he attempts to find a remedy and understand the nature of the creatures known as Shades that stalk the world.
