New Sony Patent Details VR Gyroscope Posture Control

A new patent from Sony shows off an interesting piece of tech equipped for their VR line up of hardware. The filed patent displays the “Posture Control System” which is stated to change the way games react to the player’s posture when gaming with the VR headset.

The new tech would feature a rotating seat reacting to the player based on their direction and posture. Ideally for various simulation games, i.e. racing and flight simulators, the new VR hardware seems like a hefty introduction into the still blooming world of VR.

While this is only in the patent stage, it would be interesting to see how Sony could flip the VR space with an insane piece of hardware such as this. The gyroscope posture system would definitely add some flare to the living room, but it seems pretty far-fetched to expect the standard gamer to go all-in on something of this caliber. Essentially turning your living room into a makeshift amusement park, I’m not entirely sold on the idea of a full motion gyroscope chair for a medium that’s still figuring out how to decrease game ruining motion sickness.

Thought incredibly interesting, it seems like we’re still a ways away from seeing a massive piece of tech typically found in arcades to, not only release to the public, but made affordable for the average VR user. Be sure to stay tuned for any official confirmation regarding this new patent, though, we’re almost certain it’s still quite far off from any type of reveal.
